Rep. Diane Black: If Senators Aren’t Doing Their Job, ‘Maybe Retirement Is the Thing They Need to Do’

( – Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) told Fox News Wednesday that if senators aren’t doing their job, they should retire and let someone else can get elected to do the people’s work.

Black defended President Donald Trump on Tuesday, saying that the Senate was “acting like an adult child care center” and that she was disappointed in the Senate for dragging its feet on a number of key pieces of legislation.

When asked Wednesday whether Black was referring to Sens. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) or Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), who announced his retirement Tuesday, Black said, “I’m not referring to anybody specifically, but I will say again, if you’re not doing the job, they haven’t done the job. We’ve given them the repeal and replace.

“Frankly, I still don’t understand why you couldn’t have given us something back on that, but they have 12 appropriations bills. They have repeal of Dodd-Frank,” she said.

“These are all things that are important to the American people, and if they’re not doing their work, then maybe retirement is the thing they need to do so we can get some people in the Senate that will actually do their work and do what the American people sent us here to do,” Black said.

“I understand the frustration by the president. I’ve talked to the president and the vice president about our tax reform. They’re very much on board with us getting this done before Christmas holiday,” she added.
