‘Orange Is the New Black’ season 5 reportedly leaked by hackers

The newest episodes of “Orange Is the New Black” have been leaked to the internet, claims a hacker.

A hacking group says it has posted the first 10 episodes of the upcoming season of “Orange Is the New Black” to a piracy website after Netflix failed to fulfill a ransom request, and the group is threatening other networks too.

A hacker by the name of “TheDarkOverlord” made the announcements in tweets and a post to the Pastebin website late Friday and Saturday. CNET can’t verify the authenticity of the files, but Netflix appears to be aware of the situation.

“A production vendor used by several major TV studios had its security compromised and the appropriate law enforcement authorities are involved,” the company said in a statement to various media outlets, including Variety. Netflix didn’t immediately respond to CNET’s request for comment.

The season is scheduled to debut June 9 and run for 13 episodes, with the hacker claiming that only the first 10 episodes were available when his group gained access to the show.

The hacker said other networks aren’t safe from the group’s attacks and threatened to leak more shows to the internet.

“We’re calling you out: ABC, National Geographic, Fox, IFC, and of course Netflix, still,” the hacker wrote in the Pastebin post.

The threat appears to involve some type of ransom request, with the hacker stating that “offers” are still on the table to the media companies to stop possible leaks.

“It didn’t have to be this way, Netflix. You’re going to lose a lot more money in all of this than what our modest offer was,” the hacker said in the Pastebin post.
