Porn And The Brain

Porn And The Brain

It’s understandable if you have a one-track mind when watching PornHub or RedTube. At that point, your focus is solely sexual, so who cares about anything else, right?

But a new study went the distance to prove that our brains shut down when watching porn, and while the researchers from University of Groningen Medical Center in the Netherlands did prove the point, it’s probably not what you think.

The study found that watching porn actually turns off the part of the brain that processes visual stimuli. Normal movies need that part of the brain to translate what we’re seeing, but that’s not the case for porn. That’s because the movies nowadays are so explicit that even if we click away to another tab, we still have a pretty good idea of what’s happening to Bree Olson.

So why is our brain blocking visual processing? The answer is simple: It’s putting more emphasis on sexual arousal — and other things. Our brains are pretty efficient, so it just shifts the energy where it’s needed.

The bottom line is, don’t operate heavy machinery — or do anything too important — while watching porn.
