(CNSNews.com) – At the White House press briefing on Monday, reporter Lester Kinsolving of WorldnetDaily noted the 93 to 7 Senate vote for a defense authorization bill that repeals the military’s ban on sodomy and bestiality and asked White House Press Secretary Jay Carney whether President Obama, as commander-in-chief, approves or disapproves of bestiality in the armed forces.
Carney declined to comment.
Here is the White House transcript of the exchange:
Kinsolving: Oh, my goodness.
Carney: Can you believe it? (Laughter.) I’m in the holiday spirit.
Kinsolving: In the holiday spirit. The Family Research —
Carney: Is everyone okay? (Laughter.)
Kinsolving: The Family Research Council and CNSNews both reported a 93-to-7 U.S. Senate vote to approve a defense authorization bill that, quote, “includes a provision which not only repeals the military law on sodomy, but also repeals the military ban on sex with animals, or bestiality.” Does the Commander-in-Chief approve or disapprove of bestiality in our armed forces?
Carney: I don’t have any comment on–I don’t have any comment on that. Let me go to another question.
Kinsolving: Does the President believe this will be approved by all animal support groups, such as —
Carney: Let’s get to something more serious. Yes, Jake. I’ve learned my lesson, Jake.
Jake Tapper, ABC News: Are you sure you don’t want to take any more questions on bestiality?
Carney: Let’s get to something more serious. Yes, Jake.
Tapper: You sure you don’t want to ask Lester another question? Give him another opportunity? (Laughter.)
Carney: I’ve learned my lesson, Jake. (Laughter.)
Kinsolving: Just one–
Carney: Lester, I think we’ll–we’ll let everybody get a chance here. Go ahead, Jake.
Tapper: Are you sure you don’t want to take any more questions on bestiality? (Laughter.)
As CNSNews.com reported last week, the Democratically controlled Senate voted 93-7 to approve S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act, which includes a provision repealing Article 125 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ).
Article 125 of the UCMJ makes it illegal to engage in both sodomy with humans and sex with animals.
It states: “(a) Any person subject to this chapter who engages in unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy. Penetration, however slight, is sufficient to complete the offense. (b) Any person found guilty of sodomy shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”
If the House were to pass S.1867 as it was approved by the Senate and President Obama were to sign it, the ban on sodomy and bestiality would be removed from military law. Not one senator spoke out against lifting this ban when the bill came up for a vote in the Senate.
