(CNSNews.com) – As a showdown in Congress looms over the federal budget, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) claims Democrats would like to see the federal government shutdown after the current continuing resolution runs out on April 8th.
“We now know that Democrats want a federal shutdown. They’ve said that, Chuck Schumer has said that, Harry Reid has said that and Howard Dean has said that. So clearly the Democrats want a shutdown. They own the shutdown, not the Republicans,” Bachmann said to CNSNews.com.
“They’re allies in the mainstream media will get on board with their talking points and blame Republicans. The problem is not Republicans and the problem is clearly not the Tea Party. The Tea Party, which is a broad swath of America, Democrats, Independents, Republicans, Libertarians, apolitical people, just people that want the country to work again. They want us to cut spending. They also want us to get rid of Obamacare,” added Bachmann.
Bachmann previously voted against the most recent continuing resolution because it continues to fund the implementation of the Affordable Care Act even though a federal judge has ruled it unconstitutional. She says that defunding the health care law is necessary for her to get behind a budget measure.
“That is my criteria for voting on a budget, we have to defund Obamacare in a budget in order for me to give my vote for the budget bill. Otherwise I can’t do that.”
