Anaheim International Film Festival today announced the inclusion of its New Media Expo (NME) and Market to take place on Sunday, October 17, at the conclusion of the inaugural edition of the five-day festival (October 13-17) at UltraStar Cinemas at Anaheim GardenWalk.
Presented by the Internet Marketing Association and developed by web series director/producer Canyon Prince (“First Edition,” “The Romantic Foibles of Esteban”) and AIFF Director of Programming, Matt Bolish, the AIFF New Media Expo and Market will be designed to emphasize the creators and artists within the web series community, focused on exploring the future of new media and what steps content creators and producers need to take now in order to make sure they remain a constant source of entertainment to an ever-evolving audience.
The expo itself will be comprised of a number of screenings and panels throughout the day covering everything from web criticism to branded marketing, and will also include the first ever New Media Market, which will give creators the opportunity to present their current shows and projects to those individuals and companies seeking new content.
Added to the highlights will be the World Premiere screening of THE TREASURE HUNT: A CHAD MATT, AND ROB INTERACTIVE ADVENTURE. From the creative team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Rob Polonsky, Chad Villella and Justin Martinez, the film is an interactive film that lets audience choose the heroes’ path. THE TREASURE HUNT takes place on a normal day at the office for three clueless co-workers until they suddenly get mixed up in an exciting hunt for a long lost treasure. Along the way, the trio battle a ruthless treasure seeker, shoot it out with a crazy desert wanderer and cross paths with a mystical beast — all while trying to get home alive.
All NME events will happen at AIFF’s Host Venue, the UltraStar Cinemas with panels and screenings in the theaters and the New Media Market rolling out in the filmmaker lounge.
New Media Expo Producer Canyon Prince said, “As a content creator myself, I know how hard it is to get your project out there and get people to take notice. That’s why we wanted to create this all-day event as part of the festival. It’s our hope that this isn’t just a few hour block where people come to learn about “new” technologies, but that it becomes an annual home to all the creative and highly imaginative people who are trailblazing storytelling in a completely new medium. With the introduction of the New Media Market especially, we’re hoping to give creators and distributors the opportunity to meet each other in a more open environment and hopefully start cultivating relationships with each other that I believe will ultimately lead to the creation of some of the greatest film and television projects we’ve ever seen.”
Regarding the relationship of the New Media Expo with the rest of the Anaheim International Film Festival, Director of Programming Matt Bolish said, “Our hope is to create a forum for dialog about New Media – it’s creation, it’s distribution, it’s ultimate purpose – focusing on the creator in a conventional festival setting. We don’t want to lock it in a box and keep it separate from the rest of the festival. New Media and Conventional Media are NOT separate entities, they mingle and mix and inform each other. That’s why it was important for us to show films, web series, and other transmedia projects in the same space. This isn’t some fad, it’s the future.”
AIFF also announced an exclusive iPhone app created by the Media Exchange Group for the film festival. Among the many dynamic interactive functionalities that can be found on the app are:
– The ability to view live updates, news feeds, and comments from Fans, Directors and Festival Organizers in real time.
– View trailers and make comments as well as read what others are saying about both the films, directors and cast.
– A “going” feature which is a unique functionality within the app that allows consumers to connect with either their facebook or twitter account alerting others about their plans with the festival.
